Wood Floor Sanding

Wood floor sanding is a vital stage in the wood floor restoration. Sanding removes the protective layer of your floors – be it varnish, oil or hard wax-oil and makes their surface smooth, clean and ready to the new finish.

We use only modern efficient floor sanding machines that are virtually dust free meaning that even people with breathing difficulties will not be affected. Read More About Dust Free Sanding

Restoration of Victorian pine floors are one of our specialities which we rather cleverly repair invisibly, usually after an electrician or plumber has done an installation of wires or a Radiator.
This usually results in rather poorly re-fitted boards.
We would then replace the damaged boards using reclaimed boards which we keep in stock, for a better colour and grade match.
If the customer requires it we will then fill the gaps in between the floor boards using Slivers if pine cut from reclaimed pine off cuts for a better match to the original Victorian pine floor.
Once we have used our latest technology DUST FREE sanding techniques and reached a high grade of finish including all the little corners a nieches that lesser floor sanders don’t do!.
We would then discuss the floor staining colour that the client is expecting and then we would do some physical samples on the actual floor surface. This enables the customer to visualise the finished floor, once the colour has been decided we would then complete the sanding preparation, blending in the edges and the main floor area to a very high standard.

If it was decided to add a stain colour to the pine floor we would then comprehensively vacuum the floor area and then apply the stain by a very traditional hand applied method, although this is regarded as hard work by some ,we find that you are much closer to the floor and can adjust your application as you go which ensures a much finer finish.
Once the stain is dry we would then apply a heavy coat of HARD WAX OIL  ( if lacquered 2 coats) we would the turn on our remote controlled gentle air flow fans and leave to harden overnight.
The following day we would then gently sand the floor to obtain an even finer finish prior to the last coat of either Hard Wax Oil or commercial grade lacquer being applied .
At this point the customer would be given maintenance advice and some products to help keep their newly refurbished floor looking fabulous for many years to come.
